We have an absolute corker on the blog today with this Doctor Who wedding styled shoot planned by Charlotte from Charlotte Laurie Designs.
A lot of people ask me what the definition is of an ‘Unconventional’ Wedding (Or Alternative Wedding)! Actually the definition is very broad and can mean anything from the little touches to a fully fledged theme. This styled shoot is a fantastic example! It shows how you can weave a theme into a styled wedding (Doctor Who in this instance) and still get the fabulous gorgeous wedding that you’ve always dreamt of! So lets dive right in!

Top tips to acheive this doctor who wedding look
ITS ALL ABOUT THE wedding VENUE
Your venue provides the backdrop to your whole day. Pick somewhere like this stunning Victorian Pumping Station
THEME your STYLING with alternative touches
Add touches of your theme or go crazy! Either way there are lots of options
Incorporate your pets
Come on - admit it - Biggles looks super cute!
its all about the wedding venue
Choosing a wedding venue which matches your theme is key! It’s the backdrop to your whole day. And like your colour palette, it’s like a glue that holds everything together.
This Doctor Who wedding was shot at Papplewick Pumping Station near Nottingham. And it’s totally stunning! The perfect backdrop for this type of wedding. Built between 1882 and 1884, it’s well known as Britain’s finest Victorian Water Works and the only one in the Midlands to be preserved as a complete working water pumping station. If you want an industrial, Victorian vibe this place has got it by the bucketload! It even has a lake and some fantastic original features which are showcased throughout.
Even better victorian elements were featured throughout the shoot with the lace boots and copper kettles.

Theme Your wedding day Styling
Incorporate your theme into the styling of your wedding day. Here are our top tips from this Doctor Who inspired shoot!
- Grab yourself a stunning alternative wedding bouquet like these two created by Charlotte and get a lasting keepsake of your wedding day
- Weave aspects of your theme through. Here Linzi from ‘that black & white cat’ weddings used cogs throughout to represent the passing of time which is perfect for our time travelling Doctor. You can see them throughout in the ceremony backdrop, wedding stationery, table set up and wedding cake display
- Get yourself an awesome, creative cake designer! I can’t emphasise this enough. And what a cake it was!
- Pop on a statement leather jacket to turn your wedding dress into an alternative masterpiece
- I know I always say it, but the little touches really do make your wedding day. Have you spotted yet …. the menu! (fish fingers and custard, the sonic screwdriver for cocktail …. a little imagination is all your need), the personalised handkerchiefs with our couples initials, or, the pocket watches on the wedding breakfast table

Incorporate your pets into your wedding day
“THE DOG WHO WAITED”!
I don’t think I need to say anything else! Simple yet effective!
