We have some gorgeous, dark and moody wedding inspiration for you today! This styled wedding shoot was arranged by Toni Searle Beauty and sent into us by Sammy Lea’s Retro Emporium. We love this because it strays from the typical bridal look to showcase bolder, darker styling. It’s dark and romantic with rich, gothic detailing- a perfect example of how to create impact with dark colours.
Nurstead Court is a stunning backdrop, with it’s wealth of history and fabulous original features. Teamed with Indiego Photography’s moody style, it was a match made in heaven. If you’re dreaming of a dark and moody wedding, this is the blog for you…
How to recreate this 'Edgy luxe' wedding look
Consider a different coloured dress
Why should it always be a white dress? Especially in a same-sex wedding with two brides both wanting to wear a dress, changing up the colours can help to show your individual personalities.
Rich jewel colours
Dark red, purple and navy tones are perfect for a gothic wedding. Pick a key shade to incorporate into your décor to add colour whilst keeping a moody vibe.
Dark and moody Wedding Decor
Lots of talented suppliers contributed ideas to the original mood board, resulting in an edgy and luxurious vibe. Both Bailey & Blossom and Angels & Gypsies collaborated to create a colour scheme. They used rich jewel purple tones to create a dark and moody wedding table décor, alongside beautiful bouquets. Mimi’s Sweet Treats made a stunning ombre wedding cake, complete with handmade sugar flowers to compliment the bouquet. The dramatic candle holders add grandeur to the look, as well as a romantic glow.
The invitations are the first thing your guests will see about your wedding, so it’s important to set the right tone. The black and gold stationery in this shoot, by Lorna Boyer Design, matches the edgy wedding vibe perfectly.
Contrasting Wedding Dresses
The two brides wear gorgeous wedding dresses by Louise Rose Couture and are adorned by Ash Grey Millinery accessories. With one traditional white dress and one embroidered black design, a beautiful contrast was created between the brides- almost like a yin yang! Sammy Lea’s Retro Emporium provided an awesome leather jacket, which gave an edgy twist to the white dress and tied the wedding theme together.
The bridal make-up, by Toni Searle Beauty, is dark and bold, showing how wedding make-up doesn’t have to be subtle. The bolder the better for this dark and moody wedding!
