We’re loving this rustic, DIY Farm Wedding, captured by Lightbox Studios. This styled shoot was created with the idea of ‘making something out of nothing’ and I think it’s fair to say they smashed it! Wedding Coordinator Tasha-Mae shares her DIY tips for adding creative touches to your wedding, and making the most out of a pile of hay bales!

Create your own DIY Farm Wedding
CHOOSE A BLANK CANVAS
A field/farm, a woodland, a barn? Think outside the box!
Pick your main features
Starting from scratch can be overwhelming so choose some main features and build from them. This could be a tipi, a theme you love, or some key decorations.
Starting with An empty field and some pygmy goats...
Lucy Bernier (Hair and makeup artist) approached me and asked if I would like to organise another shoot with her, after a previous collaboration. After chatting through many ideas, Lucy informed me that her friends Barry and Nicola owned Abbey Farm in Titchfield and it had a huge field. Having transformed the field for their own DIY farm wedding reception, Barry and Nicola were now keen to hire it out to other potential couples looking for a blank canvas for their wedding.
With my love of DIY weddings, I get very excited when someone tells me there is a field to get creative with! Our conversation continued and Lucy went on to tell me that Nicola and Barry had two little pygmy goats. Wow…an empty field, straw & hay bales and pygmy goats. This was, in my eyes, the perfect combination for a wedding photoshoot!
Get creative- DIY Farm wedding Inspiration
With my work taking place at DIY wedding venues I am always keen to show couples that there are no hard and fast rules when planning their wedding and that they really can create whatever they like. For that reason, it didn’t take long for us to think up a theme, that being to make whatever we can out of straw bales.
We used two very large hay bales to create a romantic backdrop to capture some breath-taking shots. With the smaller straw bales we built as many different wedding props as we could, such as a ceremony arch, a sofa, table seating and a table-plan display. Combining all of these straw structures with beautiful handmade dresses, one off tiaras, tailored suits, bridal boots, rustic props, stunning flowers, a festival vibe cake, together with a horsebox bar and mouth-watering food, oh and don’t forget the tractor… this meant our ‘Farm-Fest’ styled photoshoot had it all!
The moral to this shoot is ‘Be Brave and Don’t be Scared to get Creative…Be Unconventional!’
