How To Rock An 80s Wedding!

Today, we’re loving everything retro, and this 80s wedding shoot is giving us all the inspiration! Coco Vintage has created the perfect disco throwback… think neon lights and crazy colour! This shoot captures the bold 80s spirit, and the ‘mixtape’ romance of the decade. These fab photos, by Nik Bryant and Your Choice Photography, are transporting us back in time to those disco days!

How To Rock Your 80s Wedding...

DECORATE A SIMPLE VENUE

Why not transform your local village hall, or even an old factory, into a time capsule? This will be cheaper than an elaborate venue and means you can go decoration crazy!

Think BOLD

There was nothing ‘subtle’ about the 80s! Play around with geometric patterns and block colours, and get that 80s playlist made!

80s wedding decor

It can be tough to capture all the colours and excitement of the 80s, without looking too mismatched and ‘thrown together’. Pick 2 base colours, to give you direction, and then add accenting colours. Blocking colours, not blending, will give you that ‘popping’ retro look. Coco Vintage chose a pink and blue base for this shoot. The accent colours are mostly yellow and orange, which go perfectly with the pink whilst contrasting the blue.

If you’re going for colour, then don’t forget about your table wear! More 80’s colour is added through coloured plates and paint splashed glasses and cutlery. Little details like these can really tie a look together.

Consistency and commitment to your theme is what will make your 80s wedding spectacular. Make your theme clear in your invitations, so guests know what to expect. The invites pictured by Letters From Emily are a great example.  You could even set an 80s dress code! The neon lights in this shoot, from The Word Is Love, set an awesome disco vibe, and the black balloons reflect the light, looking edgy but fun. This monochrome polka dot table cloth is great because it makes an interesting, bold, table base whilst making the colours stand out. Block patterns are always an 80s winner!

Retro bridal styling

The model wears an intricately beaded, voluminous vintage gown by Bex Brides, finished off with a chunky necklace by Starbox Jewellery. The pink pop socks with the open toed black heels are a funky 80’s touch- little things like this can really help add personality to your wedding look!

The 80’s wedding make-up, by Amy Elizabeth, is a statement in itself. A bold pink lip and a pop of blue on the eyes is such a fun, powerful look! The hairstyle, by Stacey Tierney, also adds some fun to the look, with the bouncy, curled up do.

The blue bridesmaids dresses are the ultimate 80s staples, with the bows and ruffles, as well as the fishnet socks and studded heels! A quirky edge is added with these customised Sammy Lea’s Retro leather jackets, fitted with neon lights!

Wedding Pizza!

With all the nostalgia of a simpler time, why not keep your wedding food simple too? This shoot has takeaway pizza as a wedding snack! A pizza van, or just one big takeaway, always seems to go down a treat at a wedding. Pizza can either be an awesome evening snack or part of a main meal!

Desert could also be as simple as the wedding cake! This cake, by Debbie Gillespie Cake Design, screams ‘80s’ with the geometric coloured shapes, and looks delicious! The mixtape cookies are also great themed wedding favours!
