Manchester is fast becoming a popular area for Urban style weddings, with its exciting venues and city enthusiasts its clear to see why couples are looking at the city centre for their wedding. And why not, the wealth of opportunities for a unique urban wedding day is amazing. So over to Michelle Healey of The Urban Wedding Company for her top 5 tips on how to plan an urban wedding which is just as stylish and unique as you are!

Choosing An Urban Wedding venue
Choosing an urban wedding venue such as a warehouse usually means it comes as a blank canvas, which can be daunting for some people but instead see as that a blank canvas to let your imagination run wild. Use your creativity to put your stamp on the wedding and let your personalities shine through.
These types of venues almost always have exposed brick work and steel which once styled I can assure you will look amazing.
Urban Wedding Styling
It goes without saying you will need a stylist, this is a really exciting part of the planning process as now you can get those creative juices flowing and really put your mark on the styling of the venue. Using a blank venue gives you oodles of options on how to style it.
I always suggest having a look through Instagram and Pinterest to get some ideas if you need to, but I can be sure that if you pick the right stylist they will be able to create your vision perfectly.
Don’t just think about the wedding reception centre pieces there is more to styling than that, think about the whole urban wedding from the ceremony right through to the cake display, all these things can be styled perfectly and will really give your wedding an edgy wow factor!!
Wedding Breakfast Set Up
The last few urban weddings I have planned the couples have chosen to have long wooden trestle tables instead of the old style round ones. This has worked so well, maybe add a stylish touch of copper with Tolix chairs they are my favourite and look amazing next to wooden tables. You could also add a touch of luxury with some crushed velvet table runners, this will give a lovely texture to the table as well.
When it comes to centre pieces add a contrast of small and low with tall and full, this gives definition to a venue and will cast the eye around the room looking at different heights. Even having hanging foliage over the head table is one of my absolute favourites it looks amazing!
Urban Weddings - Lighting is everything!
This is super important especially for warehouse style venues as they tend to come with minimal lighting, let’s face it they were once for storage. So get a good lighting company in especially one who knows the venue they can then best advise you on the right lighting to suit your style and to light up the venue in the right way. Festoon lights always look amazing in a warehouse setting. I always suggest to use warm lighting, for a warmer romantic look.
Make It Your Own
I’m a huge believer that your urban wedding should reflect you as a couple! So make it your own, put your own stamp on it after all it’s a day celebrating you two and your love for each other. So add your own personal touches to each element of the day, whether that’s writing your own vows, to naming the tables after your favourite bands or places you’ve been. Let it be your love story!
But above all else enjoy every minute of the day!
