Celebrating Mother-Daughter Bonds
Gilmore Style
If Gilmore Girls taught us anything, it’s that mother-daughter relationships are worth celebrating – alongside coffee, books, and a bit of sarcasm. This Dorset wedding shoot channels Stars Hollow vibes: cosy corners, autumn leaves, and a day full of personality.
But before we dive in, we know that family looks different for everyone. For some, these emotional moments might be shared with mums and daughters; for others, with dads, grandparents, siblings, step-parents, or chosen family. Whoever holds that special place in your life, these ideas honour love, connection, and the people who’ve been part of your journey.

Getting the Gilmore Vibe
The shoot took place at The Canford in Poole, a charming inn that feels like the Dragonfly Inn’s seaside cousin. Cosy nooks, falling leaves, and – most importantly – coffee, coffee, coffee set the stage for meaningful mother-daughter moments. It’s a perfect place for quiet mornings getting ready or intimate celebrations.
Alexandra Szigeti Photography caught the magic of those in-between moments. Her relaxed, documentary style made every laugh, touch, and glance feel natural and real – exactly the kind of honesty this shoot was all about.
Becca explains how the creative direction came together:
“If you’re taking inspiration from a favourite book, film or TV series, hone in on how it makes you feel and which elements feel most natural to include rather than copying exact details. For this shoot, Gilmore Girls meant cosy, autumnal and vintage. We wanted to include a warm colour palette, seasonal blooms, and vintage textiles.”
She also notes the sustainability focus:
“All our suppliers are based locally in Dorset, apart from our lovely UK stationer who mailed in her pieces, and we prioritised seasonal, locally grown flowers – grown not flown!”

Slow Fashion Gilmore Style
Our Gilmore-inspired looks came together with boho gowns from Laura Basevi and authentic Y2K pieces sourced by Flos Vintage.
The looks were completed with upcycled jewellery and crochet pieces from To Be Adorned , including a garter and ring pillow. These special keepsakes looked beautiful in the flat lays and even better in the real moments: mum helping her daughter put it on, then the daughter returning the favour by styling her mum’s hair accessory.
Hair and makeup for the day were created by Hollie Danby Hair and Make Up, assisted by Isabel Johnson Make Up. They crafted fresh, contemporary looks for both mum and daughter that perfectly complemented the cosy, autumnal styling.
Becca from To Be Adorned said:
“It was so special seeing those little moments between our models, who are a real-life mum and daughter. Weddings are built on those tiny gestures of care.”
💡 Mother-daughter inspo: Getting ready together can be full of meaningful little rituals – fastening jewellery, helping with shoes, sharing a coffee, or even planning a “first look” moment just for the two of you. If it’s not your mum, it could be your dad, sibling, or best mate who joins you for those precious pre-ceremony memories.
Flowers, Cake Books & Stationery
If Rory’s book collection is legendary, her sunflower obsession is a close second – which made Kasserina‘s tiered creation, complete with sugar sunflowers, the perfect nod. British-grown florals by Botany and Blossoom brought in autumnal romance, styled in vintage vessels and arrangements that felt natural yet striking.
Hardbound books from Solemniko appeared throughout the shoot – from mum reading a treasured volume to pausing over the guestbook. Layered alongside was Hawthorne and Ivory‘s autumnal stationery, with envelopes, menus, and details that added texture and warmth. Together with vintage props, they made the whole scene feel relaxed, personal, and full of character.
💡 Mother–daughter inspo: Guest books can be more than just names and scribbles. Why not invite your mum (or another loved one) to write the very first page? It makes a beautiful keepsake, setting the tone for all the messages that follow.
Ceremony Moments
Once the quiet, meaningful moments of getting ready have passed, it’s time to step into the ceremony. Kelly and Hilary, the real-life mother and daughter models, shared a moment full of connection, pride, and love. Then they carried that joy into the celebration: dancing in the woods, sharing laughs, and simply being present with each other and the people who matter most. You can almost hear the “la la la la la…” soundtrack floating through the trees.
“Make space to connect with your loved ones as well as your spouse through the day,” Becca (To Be Adorned ) adds. “That could be getting ready together, a first look, or taking time for a quiet prayer or coffee.”
💡 Mother-daughter inspo: Walking down the aisle doesn’t have to follow tradition. Your mum could walk you down, both parents could accompany you, or a chosen loved one could step in. Once the ceremony begins, find small ways to continue celebrating together – include a reading, light a candle, tie a ribbon during a handfasting, or share a mother-daughter dance. A quiet toast, just the two of you, before the party begins can also create a memory that lasts long after the cake has been eaten.
