Styling a Steampunk Inspired
Alice in Wonderland Wedding

Alice in Wonderland gets a steampunk reimagining in this editorial shoot created by The Reel Deal Social. Pocket watches, clocks and playing cards sit alongside moss, mushrooms and teacups. Models Rosy and Sophie showcase custom made looks inspired by some of the story’s most recognisable characters.

Set within Worton Hall, familiar Wonderland references become starting points rather than rules. Victorian influences, tea party styling and mechanical details appear throughout. Together, they show how a steampunk wedding theme can move beyond costume and into styling, fashion and decorative details.

Steampunk Tablescape & Wonderland Details

Tea Party Wedding Styling

Foxglove and Black shows how classic Alice in Wonderland references can sit alongside steampunk details. Clocks, cogs, moss and playing cards sit alongside black candelabras, vintage teacups and teapots.

Rather than relying on the brighter colours often associated with Wonderland, darker details come through a black tablecloth and burnt orange runner. Drink Me bottles, mushrooms and mechanical touches sit throughout the tablescape.

Orange, red and blue florals bring colour amongst the darker details. They appear inside stacked teacups, teapots and metal orbs to continue the tea party references.

Teacups and Wishes provide the vintage tea set, used throughout the styling alongside flowers, candles and decorative details.

Steampunk Wedding Stationery

Calista and Belle shows how Alice in Wonderland references and steampunk details can translate into wedding stationery. Invitations combine illustrations of teacups, cogs and pocket watches in warm red and yellow tones. These mix recognisable story references with more mechanical influences.

Other pieces extend the theme further. Place cards take inspiration from vintage luggage labels and are finished with gold calligraphy and tassels. Menus become moving cogs with A Curious Feast revealed through rotating sections.

Colour, illustration and shape all help build the theme, moving beyond simply adding motifs onto stationery.

Steampunk Wedding Cake

The Cake Lab UK demonstrates how wedding cakes can become part of the styling rather than a separate detail. This four tier design carries references from across the theme. Piped florals, pocket watches, playing cards, top hats, keys and layered cogs appear throughout.

The lower tier brings in the same orange and red florals seen elsewhere in the styling. Mechanical details and Wonderland references become more prominent through the upper tiers. Displayed amongst moss, scattered cards and steampunk details, the cake styling ties back into the wider tablescape.

Character Inspired Steampunk Wedding Looks

Fashion often becomes one of the easiest ways to bring a theme into a wedding day. These looks take inspiration from different Alice in Wonderland characters and Victorian influences, showing how steampunk styling can be interpreted in very different ways.

Alice Inspired Wedding Dress

This one of a kind gown by Felicity Westmacott  shows how Alice references can translate into steampunk wedding fashion. Gold taffeta, structured corsetry and a full skirt built around a Victorian inspired hoop shape the design. Blue ribbons, scraps of vintage lace and trailing details running through the skirt reference Alice’s signature colours while keeping Victorian influences running throughout the design.

The dress can also be worn in different ways, either falling into a long train or pulled up to reveal the hoop structure beneath. House of Elliot’s white lace Victorian style boots continue the look.

Mad Hatter Inspired Wedding Look

This look shows how steampunk wedding fashion can draw from different Wonderland characters. Inspiration comes from both the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit. Velvet breeches pair with a brocade waistcoat, oversized romantic sleeves and a cravat, while pocket watch chains and striped tights add more character inspired details throughout the styling.

The vintage top hat becomes part of the look too, decorated with peacock feathers, cogs, a birdcage veil and fabric matching the waistcoat. Black lace boots from House of Elliot continue the Victorian influences running throughout the outfit.

Hair and Makeup

House of Belles show how hair and makeup can reference characters without relying on theatrical styling. Softer makeup and blue tones around the eyes mirror details within the Alice inspired look. Half up styling, loose curls and oversized blue ribbons reference one of Alice’s most recognisable details.

For the Mad Hatter inspired styling, silver curls, darker eye makeup and stronger details work alongside the tailoring and accessories, helping the character references carry through the styling as a whole.

Ceremony Styling and Wonderland Details

Themes often stop at tables and outfits, but ceremony styling can carry those ideas further. Stardust Ceremonies shows how celebrants can become part of the visual story, incorporating steampunk influences through accessories, colour and styling choices.

Smaller details can continue the theme within the ceremony itself. Vow books designed by Calista and Belle use the same red colour palette and cog motifs seen elsewhere in the styling, showing another way Alice in Wonderland references and steampunk details can appear throughout the day.

Wonderland Inspired Drinks and Tea Party Details

Bittersweet Bartenders show how drinks can become part of the styling too. Rather than treating cocktails as separate details, colours, garnishes and glassware are used to continue the Alice in Wonderland references.

Bright red cocktails nod to the Drink Me references woven throughout the styling. Florals and smaller details tie back to the styling colour palette. Alongside the vintage teacups and tea party styling, the drinks become another way of carrying the theme into parts of the day guests interact with directly.

Venue, Photography & Creative Direction

Worton Hall provides a backdrop that works particularly well for steampunk styling. Open interiors and natural light sit alongside outdoor spaces suited to portraits and larger details. The venue allows darker colours, richer textures and themed styling to stand out without feeling heavy.

Candice Harris Photography focuses on textures, styling details and editorial portraits throughout the featured images, while Nicola Ashlea Photography also photographed the concept from different perspectives.

The Reel Deal Social led the creative direction and content creation, shaping the concept and translating the steampunk and Wonderland references across styling, fashion and visual content.
