We’re talking about MUSIC this week on Unconventional Wedding. It is the ultimate communicator, time marker and unifier. It’s also a big part of your wedding! Now, we’re not going to tell you what songs to play on your big day. However, we do have some unique wedding wear inspiration for you, nodding to 5 music greats. Music has such a profound impact on culture and fashion so when we were sent this shoot by Bake To The Future, we were so excited to share it!

The music legends inspiring these unique wedding wear looks

PRINCE - Eccentric glam

DAVID BOWIE - starman chic

JIMI HENDRIX - woodstock legend

GEORGE MICHAEL - timeless styling

KURT COBAIN - classic grunge

Prince inspired wedding wear - You don't have to be rich!

Prince! What an icon. Genre and gender fluid, he had an immense influence on pop culture with his flamboyant showmanship and sparkling creativity. His style and stage presence were captivating, inspiring generations of fashion as well as music.

Are you wanting to channel a bit of Prince into your wedding wear? Pull from an array of references and don’t be afraid to push boundaries. Purple is always a winner as well as velvet, sequins and flares. Anything goes, as long as you wear it with pride and confidence!

starman! Unique wedding style

Bowie! The king of reinvention. From glam rock to chart pop, he has influenced more genres than I can count. His daring, androgynous and shocking style continues to inspire the fashion industry today.

So, how about Ziggy Stardust wedding wear? Be bold and eccentric! A bit of face art never hurt anyone. Bowie rocked an array of looks, from timeless suits to futuristic art pieces- you could mix and match to create a look that represents you.

Jimi Hendrix - 60s/ 70s Wedding wear

Jimi Hendrix was a true pioneer and a hippie icon. He revolutionised rock music, blending it with experimental sounds and bringing a fire that had never been seen before. His style was versatile and psychedelic, with a love of both military styling and soft, floaty fabrics. With his rockstar attitude, I reckon he could have pulled anything off!

How do you rock unique wedding wear like a ‘Voodoo Child,’ you ask? You can’t go wrong with a military style jacket, with contrasting pastel colours. Alternatively, you could rock some tassels and paisley. Try to channel the spirit of the 60s/70s and your outfit will evolve when you choose what you are drawn to.

Club Tropicana Wedding Style!

George Michael- king of designer stubble and dancefloor classics! He had a radical influence on club culture as well as the music industry. Incorporating glamour and subtle camp into timeless looks, George is synonymous with oversized jackets and aviator shades.  He made even the simplest of jeans and t-shirt combos look like effortless high fashion.

Think ‘colourful yet simple’ for George Michael wedding wear. The most understated of outfits can be a showstopper with the correct tailoring and sizing.

Grunge king - unique wedding wear with 'Teen Spirit'

Last but not least, we have grunge icon Kurt Cobain. His angsty, outspoken and thought-provoking anthems inspired a sub-culture of free-thinking music lovers. Kurt was an unknowing master of distressed fabrics, flannel shirts and layering.

For a Kurt inspired wedding look, embody the grunge spirit! Red and black is a classic combination, but anything goes.
