Bright Creative
Museum wedding
This colourful wedding styled shoot was the vision of Annie Bayliss the Venue Hire Assistant at Derby Museums’ Museum of Making who wanted to create wedding inspiration that was bold and colourful, yet down to earth and achievable for couples. Merging the history of an iconic building with the imagination and vibrancy of the team involved, this bright creative museum shoot is packed with ideas for your own day.

A History in handmade
Derby Museums ‘Museum of Making’ opened in 2021 at The Silk Mill which stands on the site of the world’s first ever factory! This stunning industrial building celebrates 300 years of making and aims to inspire new creatives. The Italian Mill is one of the spaces within the building. Because of the rich heritage of making at the venue, handmade details were an integral part of of the shoot – with the suppliers providing creative products that “challenge tradition and would never have been imagined at weddings in the past” (Emma at Doodah Photography tells us)

Bright Wedding Flowers
Boom Bridal provided an abundance of colour with their stunning handmade flowers. Designed and made in Derby, Laura provided a striking bouquet, button hole and headpiece all made from felt. Customisable in colours of your choice this shoot went with orange, red, yellow and turquoise florals. A bright creative alternative to fresh flowers.
Wedding Rings
Invictus Rings provided a set of handmade titanium rings. These rings are made to order with hypoallergenic materials that are guaranteed not to split, deform or crush. Designed to last a lifetime these sleek rings were the perfect nod to the longevity of the venue and the history of creativity.
Statement Stationery
Different Day Studio created a striking bright stationery suit of invitations, table names, menus and place settings. The fun playful motifs were perfectly in keeping with the bright creative nature of this wedding and the colours tied in perfectly to the table styling.
Ceremony backdrop
Annie Bayliss the Venue Hire Assistant at Derby Museums’ Museum of Making created a cute ceremony backdrop with bright ribbons to complement the colour scheme. Not only marking the space it provided a fun prop for photo opportunities. The staff at the museum are super willing to help pitch in and ensure their couples’ vision comes to life.
Creative Wedding space
Debs at Bee Sweet Occasions tells us
“We absolutely love our caterpillar tables. This table layout looks really stylish and keeps the party in close proximity for an energetic atmosphere. You can still seat groups who know each other together but the set up encourages guests to mix on their own terms. The Italian Mill is the perfect space for the caterpillar arrangement, which feels less formal than separate seating. The Mill’s original arched windows add tons of gorgeous natural side light to the scene. It really suits the rainbow colour theme with a colour per table, and the table runners help to move your eye through the space. The table cloths and napkins were provided by Luxury Linen Hire whilst the runners, chair sashes, place mats, candles and bud vases were all provided and styled by me – Bee Sweet Occasions.”
Wedding Wear
Polly
To keep the fun playful nature of the shoot Polly wore a mid length 50s style swing dress by Ashleigh Richards. The sweetheart neckline, ruching and tule layers gave a more classical feel while the floral under layer added a fun romantic twist.
Her makeup by Life of a Beauty Girl took inspiration from the vibrant wedding bouquet with bold pops of purple, turquoise and green across the eye, while keeping everything else quite neutral.
Killer Contourz created ‘girl next door’ ringlets to complement the 50s style dress. These were pulled back from the face in a half up style.
Chris
Christ wore a dark grey tweed three piece suit by Jon Paul Menswear which offset the bright tie, pocket square and button hole perfectly.
Personal Details
Wedding Ceremony
Annie from Derby Museums’ Museum of Making tells us
“For our ceremony we knew there was no choice but to have a celebrant. We wanted everything about this shoot to be about personalities. We imagined a celebration that included stories and laughs and tears. Leni from Ceremonies by Leni Robson writes a different personal script for each and every wedding, she fills it with all your wonderful stories and delivers it with love and humour. She offers lots of different types of ceremony but a colourful hand-fasting seemed to fit best with our theme.”
Wedding Entertainment
Dream Scene Events and Weddings provided a fun-filled photobooth complete with playful props for characterful snaps, producing instant prints perfect for the guest book. They also supplied colourful ‘Love Lights’ that became a striking focal point of the room, along with garden games that added an extra layer of entertainment for guests.
Photography
Emma at Doodah Photography was ideal for this shoot with her well lit captures and sympathetic edit style – ensuring the brightness of the colours shone through.
We asked Emma what couples could draw from this inspiration for their own wedding and she told us –
“Handmade will always give a more personal vibe. If you can make things yourself, (like our ribbon backdrop) that’s perfect; but there are lots of talented suppliers out there who are experts at offering high-quality handmade products.”
