Soul & Style
Content Creator Rosie of A Whole Lot of Rosie tells us that the whole concept of this cool retro wedding shoot was sparked because of the incredible ‘David Bowie’ and ‘The Beetles’ tattoos on the model Anisa – setting the tone for a nostalgic and rebellious wedding.
“Anisa walked in one morning with a wolf cut, perfect winged eyeliner, and brown flares like she’d just stepped off a vinyl cover. Her energy was magnetic, effortless, bold, and totally unforgettable. From there, the vision unfolded naturally. Groovy ’70s hues – burnt orange, dreamy yellow, and peachy pastels – wove their way through every detail. The palette was warm, playful, and packed with personality.” Rosie told us.
Little Rose Photography’s cinematic photography style was a the perfect choice for capturing what turned out to be a “celebration of free-spirited love and bold self-expression” – reflecting the unique style of the model. Swapping between digital and 35mm film she was able to get all the details and capture the vintage vibes.
Rebel Rebel
Starting the day as they meant to go on, Anisa and Wes did a tarot card reading – breaking the traditions of not seeing each other until the wedding but instead sharing a personal and intimate moment together before dressing together. Your wedding day is one of the most magical days of your lives – why would you not want to enjoy it together right from the start? Here at Unconventional Wedding we are all about doing things your own way.

Match Their vibe Retro style
Wedding Dress
Mothers Daughter provided a handmade gown with detachable puff sleeves to allow the opportunity for all the important tattoos to be seen. Finished with a playful bow on the front the dress gave a modern take on a vintage vibe. A fun floral lace grater with a retro feel by Garter Me Good was worn traditionally under the dress.
Hair & Makeup
Soft dewy skin, warm tones and subtle shimmer make up look by Samantha Campbell created a radiant finish which complemented the colour palette of both Anisa’s skin and that of the shoot. Lauren Mummery worked her magic on Anisa’s hair – keeping it soft and romantic while adding some volume to the top and keeping a thick fringe for the cool retro vibe.
Accessories
Swapping between a floral crown and coordinating earrings by Madgicks, statement floral leaf earrings with a vintage looking veil and a one of a kind headpiece by The Lucky Sixpence, Anisa was able to mix and match her looks. The Lucky Sixpence designed the floral wave headpiece and retro earrings specifically for the shoot, using pre loved vintage items to keep the retro feel. The headpiece incorporated golds, rich ambers, soft yellows and delicate pinks with a retro wave and leaf motifs.
Suit
Howard & Co provided a fabulous deep navy suit with contrasting deep orange waistcoat. A wide mustard paisley print tie and pocket square complemented the colour scheme and added the cool retro feel to the look.

A Nostalgic place
The Bell in Ticehurst was the perfect unique venue with plenty of character and charm. Little Details Big Vibe

Daydreamer Creative Studio created a custom made banner which was used as the backdrop for the ceremony space along with gold disco balls – a playful take on the retro music influence. The font and colour scheme matched that of the stationery to create cohesion.
Stationery
Bold invitations and RSVP cards by A Whole Lot of Stationery matched the tone with peach, oranges and pinks. Cool 70s inspired fonts and retro waves, hearts and stars gave a clear nod to the theme!
Table Styling
Mustard yellow embroidery on white napkins, topped with monogram bows by The The Embroidered Napkin Company gave a touch of elegance to each place setting, while personalised lollipops by Emily’s Lollies added a touch of fun. Champagne flutes adorned with hand painted flowers by The Last Little Details coordinated with the colour palette and added an extra special finishing touch.
Florals
Madgicks created a stunning bouquet filled with texture, pops of colour, playful sunflowers and a bold chrysanthemum centre. Bud vases with an array of orange and yellow flowers ran centrally down the wedding breakfast tables with trailing greenery.
Glitter, grooves, good times
Vintage Camper & Crepes
Vintage Camper: The Buttercup Bus was the most perfect shade of yellow for the whole look. Providing cool retro wedding transport and a backdrop for fun couple’s’ portraits, including the confetti moment with colour coordinating confetti by Your Confetti. The Buttercup bus also provided a delicious crepe van which offered sweet and savoury treats for the whole team and the couple.
Photo Booth & Glitter Bar
Lucy’s Glitter Box provided a fun photo booth with props for the couple to enjoy and also created a playful look to dance the night away with.
All You Need is Love
Rosie shared her top tips for creating a retro music inspired wedding:
“Start with a song that means something to you both.
Listen to a song that is important to you both. Pick a lyric that stands out – something that captures your story or your vibe as a couple. For this shoot, Anisa’s tattoos of The Beatles sparked everything and I listened to the classic “All You Need Is Love”.
Create a mood board inspired by the song.
Listen to the song, and jot down the colours, textures, and emotions it brings up. Then pull together imagery, this could be fashion, interiors, landscapes, anything, that reflects that mood. Share this with your suppliers early on so everyone is aligned on your vision from the start.
Show your personality.
I am a sucker for a disco ball so wanted them to be a part of the shoot! They’re fun and make you want to dance and I immediately think of them when I hear love songs.
Choose a team that feels like your people.
The energy behind the scenes of your day is so important. When your team uplifts each other, trusts the vision, and has fun, it shows in every single aspect. You’ll have a wedding day that not only looks beautiful and is so much fun but also is unforgettable for you and your guests.”
