Helen and Jenni were headed straight to the fairground after their ceremony!

“After our ceremony, we headed off to Nottingham’s Riverside Festival with our brilliant photographer Pink Photographics. People probably thought we were crazy in wedding dresses on the waltzers, but the photos show exactly the fun we had. It was surreal walking down the river in our wedding dresses, sharing our celebrations with random strangers. People congratulating us felt amazing. The acceptance of people and no negative comments also was a much-welcomed part of our day.”

Choosing a reception venue with sentimental value is a great way to make your big day unique to you. Helen and Jenni picked their favourite local for their relaxed city wedding day:

“We held our reception in Brewhouse & Kitchen as we used to live locally. It was always our go-to pub for a cheeky pint with the dogs or a meal out.

The room was decorated and designed by Eventfully Yours. We originally struggled to see how it would all come together, but the finished design brought tears to our eyes!

For our flowers, we wanted wildflowers, with sunflowers as a feature, and Sharon at No. 8 Studio Florists brought our dreams to life! She made everywhere look gorgeous.”

Helen and Jenni waited 3 years to tie the knot, due to covid restrictions. So, they definitely had time to get creative for their relaxed city wedding!

“We had plenty of time to plan our wedding. As we are both creatives, we decided to do some DIY! We were drawn to a rustic theme. Using some old pallets, we made a seating plan and a welcome board. We also painted a sweet board for our confectionery and cake. We decided to make our own wedding invitations, menus, and thank you cards. Jenni made all of the favors – A yellow shortbread flower with some little bees. Our guests couldn’t believe that Jenni had made them and were very complimentary!

Jenni’s Mum is also very talented – she made us an absolute show stopper of a wedding cake! It seemed a shame to cut it up! We also had our own personalised cake topper which made guests chuckle.”

Wedding dresses aren’t for everyone. But these two surprised themselves!

“Neither of us knew if we would feel comfortable in a dress. We took the plunge and tried some on at Wed2B in Nottingham. They made us feel like princesses. We unexpectedly ended up leaving the shop with two dresses. We knew our family and friends would be shocked we were not in suits! We couldn’t resist designing our own converse trainers for our day. They were hidden under the dresses but they popped out and had their time to shine in the photos!

Abby The Face Place did our makeup – Neither of us wear much makeup but the end result made us both feel amazing. Maya from Bliss Hair also did an awesome job with our hair.”

What a beautiful celebration of love!

“The night ended with fireworks over the river which was another reason why we chose the day of the festival to get married. The disco soon got everyone up on their feet to work off all the lovely food. The rest of the night was spent being together and laughing away into the early hours of the morning… what more could we have wanted for the day we finally became Mrs and Mrs?!

We had the most amazing day together from start to finish. After waiting 3 years due to Covid restrictions, it was hard to take in when our special day had finally arrived. Everything went exactly as we planned! Everyone loved how relaxed it was with no regimental schedule to stick to.”
