boho wedding

Do you love the bohemian vibe but crave a bit of colour? This is the place for you! Helena and Emily’s jewel-tone boho wedding was free-spirited, eclectic, and full of their favourite colours. These photos by Hannah Hall Photography really capture the magic of the day – You’re gonna love this one!

Here’s what Emily and Helena told us about their jewel tone boho wedding venue and ceremony:

“Our wedding venue was the beautiful and serene Bateman’s Barn in South Elmham, Norfolk. We had an outdoor wedding ceremony with loved ones sitting on hay bales covered with blankets painstakingly sourced to match our colour scheme. We both walked down the aisle with loved friends and family to a song that always makes us cry. Our close friends read readings, one of which was in part personally written. We walked back up the aisle showered in bespoke, jewel tone petal confetti to a joyous song from our early days as a couple.”

Helena and Emily are all about the colour! We asked this beautiful couple how they went about planning their big day:

“From the outset that we wanted a rustic, laid-back wedding. We took a lot of inspiration from boho weddings on Instagram and Pinterest, but added a lot of our own twists. We wanted the pampas grass, hay bales and lacy dress, but we didn’t want a wedding that looked EXACTLY like a cookie-cutter #bohowedding on Instagram. To make it feel like us, we needed more colour!

Helena is obsessed with colour and lives for all shades of turquoise, so we incorporated a bright turquoise and a darker peacock green/blue into the colour scheme. Emily is drawn to shades of red and opted for a red wine/beetroot red that we found complemented the teal against a suitable contrast of a dove grey. By building every aspect of the wedding around these colours, we tied everything back to us.”

DIY WEDDING
MARQUEE DECOR

Helena and Emily incorporated so many lovely personal details into their jewel tone boho wedding:

“We decorated the marquee with candles from Ester & Erik and honeycomb lanterns. Our tables were named after some of our favourite bands and musicians. The table plan and table markers were made by us. Our colourful 3-tiered Iced Vegan wedding cake with adorable, personalised cake-topper from Lucy’s Toppers stood proudly central.

The wedding breakfast was beautifully served family-style by Funnells Kitchen, with a menu based on our favourite foods and bright, fresh colours that matched our palette.”

COLOURFUL
wedding FLOWERS

Wedding flowers work wonders for tying a colour scheme together and creating continuity throughout your day. Here’s how Helena and Emily made their florals personal to them:

“We took our colour scheme to our wedding florist, Floral Sistas, who curated beautiful arrangements based on these colours, including coloured pampas grass to keep that boho essence. To add to the colour, and to add a big dose of ‘us’, we also added rainbow roses, as these harked back to our very first year anniversary as a couple (we both surprised each other with the exact same single rainbow rose without even knowing it!). Because Emily loves sunflowers, we initially intended to add one or two to her bouquet. However, seeing how much they popped with our colour scheme we ended up weaving them into pretty much everything!”

BOHEMIAN
WEDDING DRESSES

Here’s what Helena and Emily told us about their wedding wear:

“Emily initially had no idea whether she was going to wear a dress or a suit. She proceeded to try on seemingly every wedding dress in the shop, before settling on the very first dress that she tried on (and which Helena had earmarked for her the day before after trying it on herself and saying, ‘this is much more Emily’). The lacy Willowby ‘Andorra’ matched our boho style perfectly.

With that said, Helena’s dress was not a lacy boho dress. Helena wanted all the sparkles! Willowby’s ‘Lunella’ was the very first, and only, dress Helena fell in love with. She spent 18 months staring at pictures of it, managed to track it down and order it in especially to try. She felt ethereal and fairy-like in it, which was exactly the way she wanted to feel on her wedding day. She also tracked down turquoise cowboy boots and wore a selection of turquoise jewellery.

With the bridesmaid in a peacock dress and the best men in berry red tweed suits, we again sought to match the jewel tones of our colour scheme.”
