how to rock a luxury galaxy wedding

galaxy colour theme

Electric purples and deep blues will bring the galaxy feel. Don't be afraid of using black! It doesn't have to look gothic unless that's your vibe... in which case you should totally go for it!

tasteful stars

Using too many celestial symbols runs the risk of looking predictable or 'tacky'. By using stars deliberately in certain places, they will really stand out.

ombre bridal wear

How gorgeous is the ombre wedding dress and veil in this shoot? It's a perfect way to add darker colours to your bridal look.

celestial celebrations - luxury galaxy wedding styling

For this luxury galaxy wedding, I decided to focus on my love of Gothic and all things colour. I wanted to approach the celestial theme from a different angle and concentrate on the colours of the Galaxy, rather being more literal with excessive use of stars. Where stars were used on the bride’s dress, crown and earrings – these then stood out a lot more and gave more impact.

The materials & textures were chosen carefully, with the crater-like texture on the dinner plates imitating the moon. The crystals on the crown, cake and agate slices represented the galaxy core. I wanted everything to appear as if it was sparkling like the stars in the night sky, so everything from the glassware, candlesticks and even the stationery being printed on gloss paper, was carefully considered. It was important to have a luxury feel, which was achieved by smooth velvet table runners and napkins, to the rich ‘galaxy’ inspired colours.

I wanted to represent an unconventional wedding with the tasteful use of black. Combined with rich blues and purples, I wanted to show how a theme can be constructed without looking ‘tacky’. The rich colours of the galaxy were depicted perfectly by the ombre wedding dress and veil. Our groom’s suit also fitted into the theme with hints of purple against the dark blue, set off by the pocket-handkerchief. Dress trousers were also chosen to create a more modern and luxurious look. The make-up needed to be strong to create powerful imagery. Our bride is rocking bright red lipstick and sparkly eyes, and the groom is owning it with a bit of eye-liner.

Mystical Vibes - a 17th Century Wedding Venue

Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel in Castle Donington was a perfect wedding venue for the luxury galaxy wedding shoot. It provided a Gothic and atmospheric feel with its 17th-century farmhouse. I wanted to give a mystical feel to the shoot, so the fog machine was perfect next to the purple pampas moon-gate. I believe a wedding should be personal to the couple, so we added lots of personalised details. We had hand-painted shoes, a bespoke leather jacket and hand-sewn velvet bouquet ribbons with a written quote. I also wanted to show how dried & silk flowers can look beautiful for a wedding, with the added bonus of being kept as a keepsake after your wedding day.
