Ethereal Nature Wedding – Warrior King & Queen

With the fields of Great Betley Farmhouse commanding a view of Chanctonbury Ring, the theme of this nature wedding shoot was always going to be associated with ritual and paganism. The ring is thought to date back to the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age. No one knows exactly what it was constructed for, but it could have filled a variety of roles, including a defensive position, a cattle enclosure or even a religious shrine. It was abandoned until the Roman Invasion when two temples were built within the Ring, to which deity/deities, nobody knows. However, it has long been the source of local legends. It has a supposed mystical power, and it has been said that it can increase a woman’s fertility if she sleeps under its trees for one night.

The Triple Goddess

This is why the Triple Goddess symbol features in some parts of our shoot, with the link to the area and the power it may/may not have over a woman’s fertility. As a deity or deity archetype, The Triple Goddess is revered in many neopagan religious and spiritual traditions. It’s an embodiment of three figures being united in one: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. This symbolises both separate stages in the female life cycle and the cycle of the moon (which can rule one of the realms of heavens, earth and the underworld). The link to our bride should be clear; she is a young woman getting married. Using the weapons, like the bow and arrow and swords are another physical representation of the strength of these figures. A Warrior King and a Warrior Queen. Equal.
