Weddings should be fun! And what is more fun than going all out to pay homage to the decade of fun – the 1980s!? We’ve seen 80s inspired weddings before, but not like this! Lily Jones Events & team wanted to create a full-blown 80s extravaganza with ‘tacky chic’ in abundance. The result was this fun-filled, roller disco, 80s themed wedding at Dreamland, Margate! Filled with Rubix cubes, disco balls, neons, balloons, leg warmers, denim jackets and even a DeLorean time machine, this roller disco wedding shoot is to inspire all the 80s babies out there! Embrace the big hair and scrunchies to bring out your fun personality on your wedding day!

Roller Disco Wedding with all the fun of the 80s!
This 80s themed wedding shoot was inspired by the pop culture of the decade – the music, movies, and fashion! The team wanted to create an 80s school prom vibe. The table names by Little Green Pigeon were all classic 80s singles and the bride’s jacket by Everything But Sprinkles was adorned with ‘Together in Electric Dreams.’ There were more than a few nods to Back to the Future with a DeLorean centrepiece and a real working replica DeLorean wedding car by Back to the Future Car Hire! What a showstopper!
The iconic Dreamland in Margate was the perfect setting for this shoot. It is more commonly known for its 50s and 60s retro vibe as the UKs oldest amusement park. It’s full of vintage rides but they also have the most amazing roller disco room complete with amusements, disco ball, and neons! When you book a wedding at Dreamland, the roller disco is used for the evening party so it is the ultimate venue for the 80s loving couple, especially those who would like to see Nan on some roller skates after a few sherries!

wedding Styling like an 80s icon:
The gorgeous 80s themed wedding stationery suite was created by Little Green Pigeon, an ethical and vegan design company. Contrasting the neon colours with navy blue worked like a dream and they embraced the venue with an invitation that featured a neon helter-skelter!
Dionysus Designs created these super fun cassette tape table names as well as the giant Rubix cube centerpiece. These elements were styled on the table by Lily Jones Events along with oversized neon pink bows, a sequin tablecloth, neon green napkins, Rubix cubes, disco balls and mini slinkies! Little Green Pigeon also created some Rubix cube favour boxes that tied the whole 80s themed wedding look together.
Emma at The Balloon Shed created the most showstopping balloon arrangement ever! Nothing says ‘High School Prom’ like some fun balloons. Emma took it to the next level with neon colour explosions, giant roller skate balloons and gorgeous giant disco balls!

80s themed wedding cake!
Claire at the Artisan Cake Kitchen created this gorgeous geometric wedding cake with 80s designs and popping neon colours. It’s classy and sophisticated while still being super fun. It’s perfect for a roller disco wedding!

Roller disco wedding wear - neon dreams!
This simple tea-length wedding dress from Matchimony went perfectly with a zebra print & neon pink petticoat from Doris Designs. It was styled with neon pink legwarmers and gloves as well as this awesome 80s bridal jacket from Everything but Sprinkles. The oversized bow by Tulle & Flo brought the whole look together, featuring a birdcage veil and black crystals.
The groom’s fabulous suit was made by Couchman Bespoke, with 80s design influences all the way down to the lapels. He even had silver LED light-up trainers to complete the look provided by Everything But Sprinkles.
The 80s were definitely known for their make up mistakes, but Sam and Keran from SJB Hair and Makeup worked their magic. They brought it right out of tacky and into trendy with bold colours and glitter for this 80s themed wedding makeup! Even the groom is rocking some glitter and we’re living for it! The bride’s hair is volumized in true 80s fashion and she’s even rocking the scrunchies!

This 80s themed wedding bouquet is WOW!
Check out this alternative wedding bouquet by Maddison Rocks! It features absolutely everything to do with the 80s – wham bars, Rubix cubes, Pacman, and even a working Simon! That’s not the only thing that whirled on this bouquet – we had a working record player, neon flamingo, and light-up disco ball!

How to recreate this 80s themed wedding?
Wedding stylist and planner Lily Jones Events told us:
“My biggest tip would be to embrace the theme! It’s so much fun and definitely shouldn’t be dialled back! Who cares if people think its too much? This is your day and if you love the 80s as much as I do, you should definitely go for it!”
