Here’s what Courtney told us about her and Aaron’s Gothic pagan wedding celebration:

“Our wedding was an original vision of my own incorporating my Norse pagan beliefs, my belief in the magical arts, and making sure everyone had a wicked time! My theme was ‘Til death do us part’ and I wanted to create a dark and magical celebration. My engagement ring was a coffin shaped diamond surrounded by black onyx and my wedding band has ‘till death do us apart’ inscribed in it. Our dear friend Lewis made us a coffin shaped arbour that we used for the ceremony, and after that it was used to suspend our black wedding cake. I can’t stand traditional weddings so I wanted ours to be everything opposite to ‘traditional’.”

DIY Wedding Ceremony

Courtney chose to DIY everything for her and Aaron’s gothic pagan wedding ceremony. Where they are based in Australia, alternative weddings aren’t as popular as in the UK, so it was challenging to find the unique items she was looking for… Instead, she made her own! Online shopping and YouTube tutorials became her best friend!

pagan rituals

With the help of a wedding celebrant, the couple incorporated Norse Pagan rituals into their wedding, including handfasting and drinking from a Viking horn. It was important to them to honour nature in their ceremony.
