Happy Halloween! We’re feeling spooky here at UW and ready for all the Halloween wedding inspiration! We’ve been waiting to share these photos with you. They capture a perfect balance of darkness, elegance and fun, celebrating of both life and death. Lily Jones Events sent us this shoot with a beautiful history and concept:
“With the rise in couples wanting to honour past loved ones during their wedding, I wanted to extend this idea into a colourful celebration of both life and death. With Irish heritage, I have grown up with half of my family celebrating the festival of the Day of the Dead. This is something most people associate with Mexican traditions, but it has been celebrated in Ireland and many other countries around the world. The colourful aesthetic of the Day of the Dead lent itself beautifully to the idea that both life and death can be celebrated at a wedding. Even though we vow to love our partners until death, there is an unbreakable bond that extends beyond the physical world. Celebrating death at a wedding is hardly conventional but it can be done beautifully and respectfully.”
Top tips to achieve this halloween wedding look
CHOOSE A VENUE with history
Find a venue that gives you chills! This shoot took place in an ancient and sacred Norman Church, abandoned as a result of the Black Plague. It has an air of the supernatural!
ADD colour
You wouldn't expect colour at a Halloween wedding, but it adds a quirky element of fun, which is what weddings are all about!
bright colours in a dark church... halloween wedding styling
I love the way this Halloween wedding has been styled. An old venue with such history could potentially be cold and scary, but bright colours are added, to balance out the Gothic venue with fun colours. The styling is a nod to the ‘Day Of The Dead’ Festival with bold, block colours and candy skulls. This looks creative and eclectic, especially when counteracted with the more Gothic elements.
Edgy elegance.. a halloween couple
For a Halloween wedding, don’t be afraid to embrace different colours! Who says your dress must be white? Fans of tradition could add colour simply with a different coloured top or skirt, just like this bride. I’m LOVING the pink veil, embellished with flower petals! With bold (and sparkly!) eye makeup and a gothic headpiece, the bride looks elegant yet edgy. Colour is added through the bouquet and its gorgeous flowing ribbons.
This Halloween groom is looking awesome with a chunky burgundy tie and skull lapel pin. The velvet blazer is a subtle yet alternative twist on a classic suit.
