Are you newly engaged? This blog, with photos from the lovely Welsh power couple/ photography team Fox & Bear, will talk you through why you might want to consider an engagement shoot, and how to make the most of it!
Engagement shoots are a wonderful way to celebrate your engagement, and to have fun while capturing beautiful memories that you can keep forever!
Why Have An Engagement Shoot?
Most importantly, engagement shoots are FUN! Creating awesome photos won’t just get you a fab new profile picture, but also builds a lot of excitement about the wedding- it makes it all seem more real!
Engagement shoots can help with ‘camera shyness’, ensuring you’ll be comfortable with photos on your wedding day. Getting to know the photographer beforehand can also really help with this. Vicky from Fox & Bear says:
“For us, working with our couples is about making a connection. Meeting up, going for an adventure and capturing some awesome photos is just the best way to do this. We love getting to know them so when the wedding day arrives, it feels like we’re photographing friends.”
TOP 3 ENGAGEMENT SHOOT TIPS
Relax!
Trust Your Photographer
Chose a beautiful location
TIP #1 - Relax- You Look Great!
If you want your photos to look fun and natural, you must let yourself relax in front of the camera! A good wedding photographer should make you feel at ease. It’s about celebrating your engagement, so just focus on your partner. Don’t overthink- you (probably) don’t look as silly as you think you do! The photographer will guide you with any specific poses, but just be your lovely self and the photos will be amazing!
TIP #2 - Trust Your wedding Photographer
The right wedding photographer and being able to trust them is very important! Dewi from Fox & Bear sums it up perfectly:
“Your day is a reflection of you, your partner, your personalities, your special quirks, the things that make you… well you. Other than your memories, the photographs will be one of the only lasting traces of the day, readily available to transport you right back to those happy moments. It goes without saying then that it is important that your wedding photography should capture all this, in all its emotional, fun filled, crazy, hectic, amazing glory.”
You must be comfortable with your wedding photographer to get the best photos possible and trust them! They’ll make sure you look great, that’s their job! See our article on choosing the right wedding photographer here.
TIP #3 -Choose a beautiful Location
The location will set the tone of the engagement shoot. A lot of couples like to choose somewhere that means a lot to them, for example where they got engaged or where they met. Alternatively, you could choose absolutely anywhere! It could be a quirky café, some beautiful nature, a studio, or even a supermarket or farm! Whatever represents you as a couple will look great, there’s no right or wrong!
Jess & Giovanni chose this gorgeous countryside by the water for their fun and outdoorsy shoot. Beautiful couple, beautiful location!
