It’s time to push the boat out with Halloween! We’re talking makeshift coffins (like the one pictured below), bespoke signage, pumpkins (lots) … even ethical taxidermy! Make the most of your venue if they have any unique creepy features – see the National Justice Museums hangmans noose pictured below.

Think dark colour schemes with red and orange accents. We love the pumpkin lined, wedding aisle pictured below.

You can even dial up the spookiness with smoke machines and digital projections. Or how about your favourite horror movies projected on the wall?

Halloween is also all about the detail. We’re thinking creepy spiders, skulls, miniature pumpkins, even BIG pumpkins! A time of hidden surprises that take your wedding guests by surprise. The longer you look, the more you see …

A spine chilling, perhaps even haunted, wedding venue

Forget X factor (if that is still a thing!) – bring on Ghost factor (or even Ghostbusters)!

The perfect Halloween wedding venue is steeped in history with dark, hidden corners and ghoulish ethereal residents. So we thought we’d share a few of our favourite spooky wedding venues with you!

LEICESTER GUIDHALL, LEICESTERSHIRE

Built over 600 years ago, the Leicester Guildhall (pictured above) is one of the oldest and most haunted buildings in Leicestershire.

THE LOST VILLAGE OF DODE, KENT

THE NATIONAL JUSTICE MUSEUM, NOTTINGHAM

With its Victorian courtroom & prisons, the National Justice Museum buildings in Nottingham have been there since the 14th century. If you dare venture downstairs you can explore the jails & exercise yard complete with hangmans noose! Pictured below.

ARNOSVALE, BRISTOL

The anglican chapel at Arnosvale certainly stands out from the crowd in its spooky surroundings (pictured below).

OTHER SPOOKY WEDDING VENUES

Other spooky (and perhaps haunted) alternative wedding venues you may want to check out include:

  • Coombe Abbey Hotel, near Coventry, West Midlands. I grew up around the corner from this historic Midlands wedding venue which is well known for its resident black cats in the foyer and haunted guest rooms. Its also linked to the Gunpowder plot!
  • Warwick Castle. Over 1,100 years of history make this venue a serious ghostly contender! Escape from the dungons in the theme park, into the dramatic state rooms for a celebration like no other.
  • The Crypt at Bleeding Heart underneath St Etheldreda’s church in central London. It certainly ticks the dramatic boxes with its stained glass windows and vaulted ceiling!
  • The Vaults – buried deep beneath Waterloo station and tucked underneath the disused railway arches (pictured below)

“Trick or Treat” is a huge part of any Halloween celebration. So how about including it in your Halloween wedding day as well?

Thanks to ‘Unconventional’ directory member Lily Jones Events (pictured) for sharing with us her own wedding pictures (see more below). We’re loving the spooky dessert pictured below and loving the Harry Potter inspired sweetie bar. We reckon there are a couple of tricks in there – how about changing the colour of your guests tongues? (cackle cackle!)

And if you want to level up on the spooky scale, how about a bat inspired wedding cake? We’re loving the flying bats on this EPIC wedding cake from ‘Unconventional’ Bake to the Future. It combines both Halloween and Comic Book!
