Sometimes you get sent a submission for a blog which just blows you away! You get drawn in by the drama, the detail, the venue, that cake (wow!), the textures …… all of it really! That was what is was like for me with this Babes with the Power wedding styled shoot from our tribe member Chloe Mary Photography.
Shot in the stunning Arnosvale wedding venue with gothic wedding influences from ‘Rock n Roll’, David Bowie and the film Labyrinth (gosh I love that film!). It’s an awesome example of how you can celebrate being yourselves and have your wedding your way! I can’t tell you how I struggled to even pick the photos to feature on this one. So, I really hope that you enjoy it too!
When I asked Chloe to let me know her favourite photo (which is also the main picture for this blog) her answer pretty much sums up everything about this blog!
“My favourite photo … has to be our gorgeous tattooed bride Hayley in her veil. The shot is so hauntingly beautiful, and I feel so drawn to the image. It gives me chills and heart flutters – she looks like a gorgeous bride at the same time as looking like a ghostly figure. It matches perfectly with the venue we were privileged to shoot in as it’s both a Cemetery and a wedding venue! “Chloe
Top tips to acheive this babes with the Power wedding look
Don't be afraid of colour choices
Non-traditional colours such as black can really work. Monochrome is fab and metallic touches make it really interesting
stay true to who you are
Always celebrate who you are, your style and the life that you have built together
experiment with textures
Use different fabrics, sequins, silks to bring the detail to life
Don't be afraid of Colour Choices
“Don’t be afraid of colour choices! I know a lot of couples worry about having to stick with certain colour palettes or get concerned about using non-traditional colours such as black for their wedding. Black is my favourite colour and it was actually the first colour I wanted to prominently feature in the shoot. I wanted to show you don’t have to stick to pastels or colour when planning your wedding styling. We added in white as it’s such a complimentary colour (monochrome goodness) and metallic elements to keep things interesting” Chloe
There are several ways you can incorporate your chosen colour palette. These include;
- Your bridalwear will probably be your first stop. Don’t be afraid to look at independent dress makers such as Chantelle from Chantelle Sophia and Cherilyn at English Country Vintage who provided the bespoke dresses for this styled shoot. They can create you something truly unique and awesome!
- Likewise incorporate your wedding cake. I am totally in LOVE with the black and gold wedding cake from this shoot. Created by vegan wedding cake maker, Tiny Sarah’s Cakes, its packed full of stunning detail and the gold skull cake topper is just divine!
- Finally, wedding stationery flows all the way through your wedding from Save the Dates to On the Day. We’re loving these monochrome examples from Becky at Hawthorne and Ivory.
Stay True to Who You Are
“Stay true to who you are. Your wedding day is not a reason to change how you look or conform to who people (including friends and family) think you should be. Your wedding should celebrate who you are, your style and the life you’ve built together. It saddens me as a wedding photographer to see brides and grooms removing piercings and covering their tattoos to make family members happy or because they feel like they can’t show off their individuality. Life is far too short not to celebrate who you are no matter what shape, size or style you are and your wedding day should reflect just that – your true self.” Chloe

Experiment with Different Textures
If you’re afraid of things looking a bit flat and bland, why not experiment with textures? Sequins and silks can really make things pop. Don’t limit yourself to playing around with just wedding styling. Let your imagination run wild and feel free to experiment with the more traditional elements such as flowers.
Remember you don’t always have to choose the obvious option such as fresh flowers. The gorgeous alternative wedding bouquets by tribe member Charlotte Laurie Designs were actually made from a mixture of felt and buttons and we played with textures throughout the shoot.
You can also bring in additional detail such as these gorgeous embroidered ribbons from Heidi at Extra Special Touch (F**k tradition!).
