Romantic Pre-Raphaelite Inspired Wedding
at a Historic Venue
Inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite movement, this romantic styled shoot at Haldon Belvedere explores how historical influences can shape a contemporary wedding.
Created by Blotted Ink Photography, the concept draws on one of Britain’s best-known artistic movements while celebrating LGBTQ+ representation through contemporary wedding styling. Classical architecture, handcrafted details and layered textures create a look inspired by history without feeling like costume.

Historic Wedding Venue
Haldon Belvedere shaped much of the creative direction for this shoot. Perched above the Devon countryside, the Grade I listed tower combines Georgian architecture with sweeping views, creating a natural setting for the historical styling.
As photographer Dannie explains, “The location itself shaped so much of the creative direction.”
The venue’s spiral staircase, woodland setting and open views each became part of the shoot, while harpist Emma Graham Harpest filled the historic interior with live music.
Pre-Raphaelite wedding styling
Lily Ashton Events dressed the reception table in rich olive green and deep plum. Flowing fabrics, crystal glassware, brass candlesticks and softly draped napkins added layers of texture without overwhelming the historic setting.
Roots and Thyme became part of the styling as much as the menu itself. Fruit, rustic dishes and shared serving platters created a banquet table inspired by historical still lifes as much as a modern wedding breakfast. The food added another layer of colour, texture and abundance to the styling.

Historically Inspired Wedding Stationery
Scribe Stationery introduced the historical influences through deckled-edge paper, ornate botanical illustrations and elegant calligraphy. Invitations, menus and place cards carried the same rich plum palette seen throughout the styling, while gold edging added another handcrafted detail.
Fine Art Wedding Cake
Papaver Fine Art Cakes created a three-tier cake that became one of the focal points of the reception styling. Deep plum icing, gilded botanical details and sculptural sugar flowers echoed the colour palette established across the table, while berries and foliage softened the structured design.
Romantic Wedding Florals
Timeless Petals by Alexis created Nadia’s bouquet using deep red roses, vibrant anemones, textured seed heads and trailing amaranthus. Rich berry tones, bold blooms and flowing textures reflected the colour palette seen throughout the styling.
Pre-Raphaelite Wedding Fashion
Pre-Raphaelite Wedding Dress
Ailsa Munro Dressmaker created a flowing silk gown with an empire waist, gathered neckline and full sleeves. Inspired by historical silhouettes, the dress felt romantic rather than theatrical. Its soft movement suited both the interiors of Haldon Belvedere and the surrounding grounds.

Rather than traditional wedding tailoring, the second look paired a soft linen shirt with a fitted waistcoat and tartan trousers. The relaxed styling complemented the gown while offering a different interpretation of historical wedding fashion.
lace wedding boots
House of Elliot’s ivory lace boots peeked from beneath the hem of the gown, combining delicate lace with Victorian-inspired styling. They offered an alternative to traditional wedding shoes while continuing the historical influences seen throughout the styling.
finishing touches
Glam Ward and Get Glamourous kept both looks soft and natural, with loose waves for Nadia and textured curls for Poppy. Botanical hair accessories and handcrafted jewellery by The Lucky Sixpence added delicate finishing touches to both looks. Scrolling organic shapes, leaf motifs and pearls reflected the botanical influences seen throughout the styling.
Capturing the day
Blotted Ink Photography developed the concept and documented every element of the shoot, from sweeping portraits across the grounds of Haldon Belvedere to the smaller styling details. Howard Southwest photographed alongside Dannie, capturing the day from a second perspective.
“I absolutely adore the shots outside with the wind, the way the dress billows, the soft colours of the castle in the background,” says Dannie. “They have to be some of my favourites.”
Jacob Housego Weddings translated the concept into film, using drone footage of Haldon Belvedere, the movement of the dress in the wind and the quieter moments throughout the day to tell the story in motion. Alongside this, l Socials captured behind the scenes content designed for social media, preserving the atmosphere of the shoot in a series of short-form moments.
