You may think that a perfect wedding takes months or even years to plan. However, there is nothing to stop you getting married at short notice and still having a fabulous last-minute wedding celebration. We have a guest blog today, written by Ruby Clarkson and featuring some gorgeous snaps by Kirsty Rockett Photography! Read on for last minute wedding tips and advice…
Start organising straight away
Having a lack of time means that you have to become very organised very quickly, when it comes to arranging a last minute wedding. You should sit down and create a checklist of everything that needs to be done. This includes:
- Choosing and booking a venue.
- Choosing a wedding dress and outfits for the bridal party.
- Arranging food and drink.
- Choosing and paying for flowers.
- Creating a guest list.
- Arranging a honeymoon, if budget allows!
As soon as each task is completed it should be marked off the list. Remember to complete the most important tasks first. For instance, you cannot have a wedding at all before you book a venue!
Tell guests as soon as possible
One of the biggest problems you are likely to have when planning a last minute wedding is the availability of guests. The longer you leave it to tell people that they are invited to your wedding, the less likely they are to be available. This is why it’s so important to send invites as soon as the venue is booked and confirmed.
Get as much inspiration as you can
If you are organising a last minute wedding, you do not have a lot of time to decide what you want. This is why it’s so important to get inspiration from magazines, blogs (like this one, Unconventional Wedding!) and online resources. You may also find it useful to look at social media sites such as Instagram and Pinterest where you can find inspirational wedding day images and ideas.
Do not try to please everyone
The most important people on your wedding day are you and your partner. It’s essential that you remember this and do not try to please everybody else. For instance, it can be difficult to invite a lot of people when a wedding is being organised at short notice. You simply need to invite the most important people and explain the situation to others. They should be truly happy for you whether they are invited or not.
Ask for help when you need it
Arranging a last minute wedding can be daunting. This is why it’s so important to ask for help when you need it. You will find that friends and family will be only too willing to help with the arrangements. It can be especially useful to talk to people who have only recently got married themselves. They can give you valuable insights into the easiest ways to organise various aspects of the wedding day. They may also be able to provide you with some useful telephone numbers for people such as caterers and photographers. This can help you to save valuable time.
Do not expect the Impossible
As mentioned earlier, it’s perfectly possible to arrange a beautiful wedding day on short notice. However, you do have to be realistic about what to expect. It’s important to remember that wedding days can cost a lot of money to arrange. If you have not had the time to save a lot of money, you may need to cut back on some of the expenses. This may mean that you cannot have the most expensive bouquet or the most elaborate wedding dress. It’s important to be realistic and to realise that lack of financing does not what mean that a wedding day has to be any less wonderful.
Do not lose sight of the most important thing
If you are planning a last minute wedding, it’s important to not lose sight of what really matters. The single most important part of any wedding day is the love between the bride and groom. If this is there then everything else is just the decoration that helps to make the day perfect.
