We love being sent real weddings here at UW! We also love a creative wedding theme, so this one is right up our street. Rosie and Ben’s BioShock Themed Wedding was photographed by our Unconventional AJTImages and we are huge fans! Think steampunk meets Art Deco meets dark industrial. This couple really injected their personalities into their big day – keep scrolling to get inspired!

how to create an EPIC Themed Wedding
It’s all in the details!
Make sure that even things like the fonts of your wedding stationery tie in with your theme! Andes font is the actual font used in the BioShock game, so we made sure it was on all of the stationery and signs.
Shop secondhand!
eBay and second hand sites are brilliant! I sourced all of the vintage typewriters, medicine bottles and old props that were dotted about the venue from there!
Get a little messy!
Don’t be afraid to get your wedding dress dirty! AJTImages, our photographer, found some great ‘weathered’ spots for some of the Bioshock themed photos - I’m so glad he did as they are some of my favourites!
Creating A BioShock Themed Wedding
We always knew we wanted an alternative wedding as we are a fairly odd couple! Ben has always loved the artwork and styling from the game BioShock and we thought why not? So, we decided to create a BioShock themed wedding!
The glass taxidermy dome centrepieces sitting on top of steampunk car gears contained the Blue morpho butterflies, which feature a lot in the game. Each table was also named after a different place in the game, with nods to the theme in all the font used on the menus and name cards.
We used the words ‘Would You Kindly’ typed on aged paper in vintage typewriters dotted about the reception room, in amongst ivy and vintage medicine bottles to show guests to the BioShock guest book and card table.

When The Bride Loves Shoes!
I chose my wedding dress because of the Art Deco vibe of our BioShock themed wedding. My mum created the wonderful starry bridal veil, especially for my big day!
Shoes have always been a big thing for me so I asked the bridesmaids to all choose their own shoes, the wilder the better, and they did not disappoint! They went perfectly with my teal and rainbow glitter heels from Irregular Choice! My 5 year old daughter even had pink flowery doc martens with gold laces!

Alternative Wedding Flowers & BioShock Splicer Masks
I’m a paper florist so I obviously had to create all of the wedding flowers myself! I made individual peonies with wild roses and eucalyptus for my bridesmaids and wild roses and forget me nots as buttonholes for Ben and the groomsmen. For my alternative bouquet, I created a wild bouquet of peonies, roses, proteas, eucalyptus and bright teal feathers surrounding a little magpie skull, and finished with trailing ribbons of gold coral and teal velvet ribbons.
You can’t have a BioShock themed wedding without splicer masks! Me and Ben had fun making these during the first lockdown!
