Time for some vintage wedding gorgeousness over on the blog today with this railway wedding styled shoot pulled together by the Leicester Wedding Network with some very special guests!
Shot at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough, this stunning heritage railway station features full size steam engines which are carefully looked after by its team of volunteers. It’s also a movie star having appeared in series such as the Crown and Victoria to name but a few! A fabulous quirky wedding venue (yes you can have your wedding reception on the preserved train carriages) it was the perfect inspiration for this Victoriana styled shoot. At the end of the day shooting, the steam train left to collect a couple and their wedding party ready for a real evening wedding reception on the railway line too!
Get ready for lots of Victorian wedding inspiration filled with vintage wedding ideas and bold colour palettes. There is also a couple of fun shots too – including trying out the luggage scales! I was quite surprised by our bride drinking a well-known brand of cider though – who knew that existed in Victorian times! Brilliant!

I don’t really need to say more about this fabulous Victorian, quirky wedding venue. Its been preserved perfectly and has so many original features the team were certainly spoilt with their location.
On the day of the shoot itself, the team were joined by a local couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. What better than to make their day with a ride in this awesome wedding car! Oh, and a local dog joined the show too!
Vintage Victorian lace all the way
Lace was a key feature of Victorian life, so you can see this in both the dress and the boots. The team ran with two different types of millinery from their amazing two designers to showcase two different looks. One was a beautiful romantic bridal look with soft pink roses and ivory lace to compliment the lace dress. The other was a dramatic headpiece with burgundy velvet flowers and curled pheasant feathers to mirror the bouquet. And those lace boots – just perfect!
Incorporate bold colours
The team used a colour palette which would complement the station and its surroundings, so a bold burgundy worked well with lush greens, soft creams and peaches. The deep blue seats on the train offset the subtle colours and they incorporated as many of the station features as we could, from platform signs and luggage to a phone box and the bar.
The stationery picked up on the railway theme with platform sign shapes in the theme colours and clocks and tickets in the background. The table settings had to be gold to mirror the opulence of the beautiful old carriages.

It was such a gorgeous sunny day and the locals of Loughborough all seemed keen to get involved in the shoot. We had a dog loaned to us at one point and a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary joined in the fun with photos in the back of the car.
