A fairy-tale wedding is a dream for many, but are you wanting something a little different from the traditional? Today’s blog is all about taking a classic look and adding personal touches, to create your own alterative fairy-tale wedding.
Daniella from Magpie Event Planning aims to dispel the notion that themed weddings are tacky. This wedding shoot is both magical and sophisticated; a far cry from ‘costume shop dress up’. Alternative and classic styling can greatly complement each other, and this shoot blends the two into one quirky fairy-tale. Captured by Browning Photographic, these rule breaking princesses are living their alternative fantasy with both tiaras and leather jackets.

How to create your own alternative fairy-tale Wedding
CHOOSE AN unusual VENUE
Fairy-tales don’t just happen in castles! Bring your fantasy to a unique venue, such as Bodmin Jail, to bring a dark twist to your wedding.
ACCESSORISE!
In this shoot, unique touches are added to a traditional base. Build from a simple base to combine classic and edgy elements.
Fairy-tale wedding rebels
Daniella chose to go with 2 different bridal looks, the striking red and the romantic pink, both inspired by fairy-tale. The red princess takes inspiration from the darker side of a famous tale, playing on the ‘poison apple’, with gothic make up by Made Up By Helen and a statement headpiece from The Lucky Sixpence. She edges up her classic white wedding dress with chunky Doc Martens and a ruby shawl from Weddings by Laremi.
The pink princess rocks a more traditional wedding look, with a full-bodied gown from Amica Bridal Boutique and a twinkling tiara. The dusky pink is paired with stone grey, adding a soft edge to the look. The long, tumbling locks, by Lily Of The Valley Hair Design, is a dream princess look! She adds a punky twist with custom leather jacket by Sammy Lea’s Retro Emporium. Her prince rocks an awesome pink suit too, which is a refreshing change from traditional colours.

A Dark Wedding Venue
This shoot took place at Bodmin Jail in Cornwall- the perfect alternative wedding venue for couples looking for something a little different. The historic jailhouse makes a great gothic backdrop, challenging fairy-tale tradition with a dark twist.
The two table arrangements, just like the different bridal looks, demonstrate how you can style the same venue differently. The red table continues the ‘poison apple’ theme, with deep crimsons and black and white candles. The pink table features silky table cloths and romantic rose petals, showing how you can still have softer styling in such an edgy venue because it makes a perfect contrast! Both looks contain gorgeous stationery by With Love Weddings.

What will YOUR alternative fairy-tale wedding be?
What an awesome shoot! Daniella and the team have perfectly demonstrated how you can add your own spin on tradition, whilst keeping a consistent theme for your wedding. A fairy-tale can be whatever you want it to be, so let your imagination run wild and dream up your fantasy!
